The Agents of Peace are breaking into more festivals this year! Hot off the back of an awesome weekend at Narooma (Great Southern Blues and Rockabilly Festival 2009), we are now looking forward to bringing the love to Festival Of The Sun in Port Macquarie (Dec) and we have just been announced at The Peats Ridge Festival for NYE!! (Dec 31). Also, we will be rockin’ Tamworth for the pre-Australia Day weekend at the Tamworth Country Music Festival in 2010.
If you know of any festivals you would like to see us play at, be sure to talk about us on any of the many festival blog pages.
Have a look at the new gig listing for the end of this year (Oct-Jan). We will be travelling up and down the East Coast and look forward to seeing you all again (or even for the first time!) at one of the many gigs in or near your area.
Yes, it’s almost that time of year again and we want to share it with all of our devoted Newcastle, Hunter and Sydney folk. Thanks to Brian Lizotte and the great folk at Lizottes, New Lambton, we will be performing a special Christmas Show on Wednesday 23rd December. The show will feature several guest ‘Agents’ and dinner/ticket packages are still available. Tickets are now on sale and will sell fast.
It’s time to put some important ‘Agents of Peace’ dates in the calendar as we will be performing at some great festivals later in the year as well as a special Christmas show at Lizottes Newcastle and an exclusive New Years Eve show at Dudley’s Behind Closed Doors; (tickets are strictly limited to these two shows so book early). Check out the new tour dates for links and further information.
The Agents Of Peace performed live at Lizottes in Newcastle on Sunday 21st June launching their new album Future Roots available through iTunes.
Our album launch for 'Future Roots' is on Friday May 22nd at the Sando Newtown. Tickets are $12 and will sell fast. Exclusive to you as a dedicated supporter of the Agents, you can secure your ticket and place at the launch now by emailing info@agentsofpeace.com.au with the names of who will be attending. This will guarantee your ticket at the door where you can pay and collect on the night. Numbers are limited so get in now so you don’t miss out (Tickets $12).
The show was held recently and was huge. The show sold out in record time a couple of months ago and I want to thank Doug T for such a wonderful night and an awesome job promoting the show. Also a huge thank you to all of you who were there, we had a great night didn't we! Will be in Newcastle again in the not too distant future.
'Black Cat' has received an ‘Honorable Mention’ at the International Songwriting Competition from Tom Waits, Jerry Lewis, Robert Smith (the Cure), Rob Thomas (Matchbox 20), and Neil Finn. The song was short listed from 17,000 songs from all around the world. Thank you to all of you on our data base who already know and love the song.
We are launching Better, (which will be closely followed by Black Cat), to radio over the coming months. If you would like your name added to our petition which will lobby radio programmers for airplay, then please email your request to be added to info@agentsofpeace.com.au. Thanks in advance for you support, your voice really works in getting radio to take notice. (You are probably not aware that almost all songs on commercial radio are backed by one of only four major international corporate record companies. Just think of the thousands of great songs that are not even considered for airplay simply because the artist has chosen to be independent like us).
I am proud to announce my involvement in a brand new project. Along with other artists from all over the world, we will regularly be recording and releasing our own version of a classic song of peace and social awareness. A different song will be chosen each quarter. With this project we are creating a global chain on our websites which will cross promote each artist and their own version of each chosen song. This is the 'Woodstock' mentality of the new millennium. 'Artists helping Artist' to send out a clear message of 'peace' into the world. The first song we have chosen is What's Goin On?. Check out our freshly recorded version of this Marvin Gaye classic right here on the website. If you love it you can just follow the link and Purchase What's Going On at iTunes where it is available exclusively. (This song was recently voted the number 2 Motown song of all time. It is a song about social and racial injustice and the need for awareness of these issues and is as inspiring a message now as it was in 1970 when it was first released).
We are so happy to have Allon back with us after being away recovering from illness. He was 'champing at the bit' to get back out there and played his first show back last week at the Gloucester Blues Festival. A huge thank you to honorary Agent of Peace Gareth Hudson who had big shoes to fill but contributed enormously to our shows with his amazing double bass and didgeridoo playing. We are so lucky to have an extended family of Honorary AOP's to help us out on occasion. Massive thanks to fellow AOP's Rod Ansell and Travis May for being the wonderful musicians and human beings that they are especially through our recent journey. Also to Nat our crew chief...he really does makes it all roll.
These two guys are blowing me away at the moment; you wont hear them on commercial radio or see them on Video Hits; this is real legendary songwriting and musicianship and proof that you find the best music. Once you discover these guys your ears wont be the same again. Don't forget to remain open to new music and pass on the secret when you discover amazing music.
Other current GW faves; Ryan Adams, Ash Grunwald, John Mayer (DVD 'Where the Light Is'- featuring the Trio with Steve Jordan (famous for co writing/producing and playing drums and bass with Keith Richards and the Expensive Winos), and Pino Paladino (at the moment famous for replacing John Entwhistle in the Who). I believe John Mayer is becoming 'the' guy, up there with the greatest guitarist/singer/songwriters ever.
Firstly, I hate labels; they really cannot adequately describe anything. That said I label myself as a Roots Artist. This is because roots literally means 'where modern music has grown from'.
Yes, I have had a long career as a ‘rock n roller’ but ‘rock n roll’ has its roots in ‘blues’. And in my opinion, blues has its roots in folk music (story telling songs), work / prison gang music and gospel music.
I always remember being able to create and write songs from an early age and I had an immediate connection not only with the guitar but for the stories in songs. As you have probably seen and heard from me, I play music ranging from folk and blues to rock n roll. Basically I am a songwriter and as a guitarist and musician these styles of music really connected with me. I am probably what you would call a ‘Hybrid Roots Artist’….now there’s a label.
We are excited about performing 2 shows at this years festival. Please visit www.bluesonbroadbeach.com for more details.
Be good, be kind, be patient but most of all be ya beautiful self.
